Asia-Pacific Finance and Economics Forum


Sungkyunkwan University will be hosting the international academic session called the “Asia-Pacific Finance and Economics Forum” on December 10 (Tues) from 1:00~3:10 PM in Sohyang Lecture Room (10602) at 600th Anniversary Hall. This session is being conducted as part of the “SKKU-ZJU International Conference on Economics and Finance" organized by Professor Doojin Ryu in the Department of Economics at Sungkyunkwan University.


The forum will be led by world-class scholars from Korea, the United States, China, and Japan in the fields of financial economics and advanced financial engineering. The presentations include:


  • "International Capital Flows in Korea" by Professor Sung-Hyun Kim in the Department of Economics at Sungkyukwan University


    • "The Internationalization of Futures Markets: Lessons from the Past” by Robert Webb, the editor of the Journal of Futures Markets – a leading academic SSCI journal focusing on derivative securites and markets– as well as Paul Tudor Jones II Research (Chaired) Professor at the University of Virginia

  • "Do Index Futures Restrictions Affect Spot and Derivatives Trading?" by Professor Xingguo Luo in the College of Economics at Zhejiang University

  • "Default Risk – A StarMine Perspective” by Jamie Coombs, Performance Director of Asia at Refinitiv

  • "Price Discovery with Chinese Characteristics” by Professor Qian Han from the Wang Yanan Institute for Studies in Economics, Xiamen University

  • "Frontiers of Financial Engineering Today” by Professor Jiro Akahori in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Ritsumeikan University

Attending the seminar is free of charge for all members of Sungkyunkwan University. Thesis presentations will be done after the seminar. Currently, there are about 50 thesis presentations scheduled on the topics such as Fintech, Block-chain, Financial Engineering, Applied Economics, and more.  Undergraduate and MBA students at Sungkyunkwan University will be given the opportunity to ask the panelists questions related to financial research, study abroad, and career advice.

Information about the organizer:

Doojin Ryu is a Professor (tenured) at Sungkyunkwan University who has published more than 100 papers in highly-ranked SSCI journals including Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Quantitative Finance. Dr. Ryu is the editor of Investment Analysts Journal (SSCI) and the subject editors of Emerging Markets Review (SSCI) and Journal of Multinational Financial Management (SSCI).
