Completion of the 2nd SKKU Research Matters of 2022

SKKU Graduate School (Prof. Sangman Han) successfully completed the 2nd SKKU Research Matters Contest which was held online since December.

As our representative business of Innovation in Higher Education, ‘SKKU Research Matters’ is a competitive research of speech contest where graduate students discuss the importance of their research studies. Started as a research knowledge program by Brown University in 2014, ‘Research Matters’, benchmarked by BK21 Innovation Business Graduate School starting, is annually held twice starting in 2021 and was held a total of 4 times.

This contest had four panels (Humanities/Arts, Social Sciences, Engineering, Medicine/Pharmacy) and 67 graduate students participated. One outstanding student was selected from each panel to be selected into four awardees who were awarded the first prize, the second prize was awarded to 16 students, and 24 were awarded the participation prize with prize money and certificates.

The judge of all four panels, Prof. Kyeong kyu Kim of the School of Medicine explained, “Not only was the graduate research performance contest confirmed to be high in its level of research compared to the first contest, but also it provided a place to provide motivations and opportunities for graduate schools at this school.” He further revealed, “the awards went to prospective graduates who were able to logically and persuasively present their research topics and plans, even if they did not yet make many achievements.”

Prof. Sangman Han, the host of this event, said, “Through this contest, we were able to confirm the passionate

determination once more in research, followed by the outstanding performances of the graduate students. In 2023, the contest will have a panel which is even more divided and convergent in fields.” He added, “we are preparing to publicize news-related content through our mobile newsletter, so we look forward to more participation of graduate students.”

‘SKKU Research Matters’ is planned to be held in the first and second half of 2023 and is expected to provide great opportunities to share research insights through many graduate applicants of our school.
