Sungkyunkwan University - IMNEWRUN Holds 'Neurobiotechnology Symposium 2023'

- Will discuss Novel Technology & Therapeutic Approaches in Neurodegenerative Diseases

- Held on May 10 at the Grand Auditorium of the Natural Science Campus

The Neurobiotechnology Symposium 2023, co-hosted and organized by our university and bio company IMNEWRUN (CEO Han-joo Kim), will be held at the auditorium of the Natural Science Campus on May 10.

The first Neurobiotechnology Symposium will cover innovative biotechnology and new treatment approaches in the field of brain diseases under the theme of ‘Novel Technology & Therapeutics Approach in Neurodegenerative Diseases’.

The symposium will be attended by scholars and industry experts from various fields at home and abroad to conduct lectures and discussions. The event will be held in two sessions and special lectures in the order of △ Novel Technology △ Novel Therapeutics Approach △ Novel Therapeutics Development & Open Innovation.

President Ji-beom Yoo and Prof. Sang-jeon Chung, Dean of School of Pharmacy, will deliver the opening speech, while Seong-Gi Kim, Director of Center for Neuroscience Imaging Research (CNIR), will deliver the closing speech.

For each session, Professor William DeGrado of the University of California-San Francisco (UCSF), a world-renowned scholar in the field of De-novo protein design, and Professor Yong-ho Kim of SKKU will present the latest trends in De-novo protein design and ultra-selective cerebrovascular antibody technology using them. In the Novel Therapeutic Approach Session, Chang-joon Lee, head of the Institute for Basic Science, and Carlo Condello, a professor at the UCSF Brain Disease Research Institute, will give lectures.

Finally, Dr. Michael Mark, a former global director of cardiovascular metabolic disease research at Beringer Ingelheim, will give a lecture on Novel Therapeutic Development & Open Innovation called “Masterpieces of Innovation” based on own experiences and future perspectives (2019.7 Yuhan-Beringer Ingelheim $870M non-alcoholic steatohepatitis fusion protein technology transfer case).

Through the symposium, our university and IMNEWRUN will establish a domestic and international research network to develop innovative technologies and new treatments for brain disease, an unexplored field, and expand the global CNS (Central Neural System) ecosystem.

This symposium will be sponsored jointly by the Education Research Group for Nano-Convergence Based Advanced Materials, Total Periodic Education Center for Innovative Bio-therapeutics Based on Cluster of Industry, University, Research, Institute and Hospital Intelligent Precision Healthcare Convergence, and the Intelligent Precision Healthcare Convergence.
