Sojeong Park, the director of the K-Academic Diffusion Research Center, Opened a course titled “Korean Music, A Philosophical Exploration”

Sojeong Park, the director of the K-Academic Diffusion Research Center at the Korean Philosophy and Culture Research Institute and professor of East Asian Korean Philosophy, has opened a course titled "Korean Music, A Philosophical Exploration" on the global MOOC platform 'Coursera.' Established in 2012, Coursera is the world's largest online open course platform with 113 million learners.

This course planned and produced by Professor Sojeong Park and Professor Soo-hyun Kim, aims to explore the vitality found in Korean music. The course provides content from ancient Korean music to contemporary music, allowing learners to experience it both auditorily and visually. It examines the continuity of Korean thought in various perspectives, embracing both those majoring in music and those studying philosophy. The course combines musical expertise with philosophical content, making it an intermediate-level course suitable for both music majors and philosophy enthusiasts.

Notably, this course is the second one developed by the K-Academic Diffusion Research Center with the support of the Ministry of Education and the Korea Research Institute for Korean Studies since July 2022. Among the ten courses in the second year, it is the first to be integrated into the Coursera platform. The K-Academic Diffusion Research Center plans to add another course taught by Professor Park Sojeong in early 2024, establishing a Coursera Specialization series called 'Korean Philosophy Essentials' focusing on Korean philosophy. Subsequently, courses taught by other faculty members of our university's Graduate School of International Studies will also be added to the platform.

The course is available for enrollment on the Coursera website (https://www.coursera.org/learn/korean-music-a-philosophical-exploration), and learners who complete the seven-week program after upgrading can receive a Shareable Certificate issued by Coursera.
