Science without Borders Brazil-Korea receives Fall 2012 students in First Meeting Event

Seoul, September 9th, 2012

The Embassy of Brazil in Seoul; the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology from the Republic of Korea (MEST); the Korean Foundation for the Promotion of Private Education (KFPP); the KOBRA student group; the Brazil-Korea Association (ABC) promoted the 1st Science without Borders Brazil-Korea Student Meeting on September 9th, 2012 in the Seoul campus of Sungkyungkwan University. The event was sponsored by the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) under the Program for Supporting Brazilian Students Abroad (PAEB 2012).

The event gathered the 91 Brazilian students enrolled in top Korean universities admitted during Spring and Fall 2012.

The meeting agenda included a welcoming speech from Ambassador Edmundo Fujita (see attached file), two keynote speeches from Professor Soleiman Dias about Korean Culture and from the KOBRA student group about Academic Life in Korea. The KOBRA student group officially launched the "Guide for Brazilian Students in Korea" to be digitally released by the middle of September. In the last part of the event, 3 case studies were presented about the research and internship opportunities in universities and companies.

First, Professor Professor Young Yim Doh from the Graduate School of Culture Technology at KAIST and Mr. Orlando Borges (UNISINOS/KAIST) presented their experience in conducting research in KAIST. Professor Doh and Mr. Borges published the first bilateral article in the Science without Borders Brazil-Korea program (see attached image Artigo_Orlando.JPG).

Secondly, Mr. Cassiano Campes (UNISINOS/SKKU) and Mr. Ismael Cardoso (UNISINOS/SKKU) presented their case as interns in Samsung Electronics, working in the development of new memory devices.

Lastly, Ms. Ane Hoffmann(UNISINOS/SKKU), Bruno Closs(UNISINOS/KAIST), Ester Baungratz(UNISINOS/POSTECH), Jessica Okajima (UFMT/Kookmin) presented their experiences as summer interns in Hyundai Motor Group.
