Prof. Young Hee Lee’s Team Paper – Published in NATURE

- Simultaneously observing graphene grain boundaries and size distributions with optical microscopy

Domestic researchers developed a previously thought impossible way to simultaneously observe graphne grain boundaries and size distribution with ordinary optical microscope.

Graphene is a Carbon-nano material minus one outer layer of graphite; known as the new ‘dream material’ due to its great applicability, high conductivity and electric charge transferability

On October 4 (Thu), Professor Young Hee Lee (57) and her research team announced their success in observing graphene grains’ boundaries and its distribution through an optical microscope (1 micro meter resolution), by selectively oxidizing the copper board right beneath graphene grain boundaries.

This research by Professor Lee, standard doctor Seung Mi Lee, doctoral students; Dinh Luat Duong and Kang Hee Han has been conducted in support of the World Class Unversity (WCU) development project; run by the Ministry of Education Science and Technology (MEST), and National Research Foundation (NRF). This research has been published in the October 4th online issue of the world renowned science journal ‘Nature.’

Professor Lee stated that “As characteristics of graphene can be easily monitored through the optical microscope when synthesizing large quantities of graphene in the production line of businesses, it is expected to bring great economic effect.”
