SKKU-KAFE International Conference on Finance and Economics Successfully Concludes

Sungkyunkwan University and the Korean Association of Financial Engineering (President Professor Doojin Ryu) jointly hosted the "2023 SKKU-KAFE International Conference on Finance and Economics" at the university's International Hall from October 25th to 27th, spanning three days. At this academic conference, over 60 papers were presented in a total of 14 academic sessions, including special lectures by overseas scholars. More than 500 attendees from academia and the finance industry participated both on-site and online.

President Ji-beom Yoo remarked, "Renowned global scholars in the field of finance and Nobel laureates Robert Merton, Myron Scholes, and Robert Engle visited our university, delivering speeches and engaging in academic exchanges. This event provided a rare opportunity for 8 editors-in-chief of financial SSCI journals to present the latest research and engage in discussions with students, which I am delighted to have witnessed."

Sung-hyun Kim, the Dean of the College of Economics and the head of the BK21 four Education and Research Group in Economics strengthened academic exchanges and research collaboration between our university and international scholars such as Professor Jonathan Batten, the editor-in-chief of the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money, Dr. Arman Sahovic from the London Stock Exchange Group, and Professor Jianfeng Hu from the Singapore Management University through a Brown Bag seminar.

Professor Eun-il Park from the Department of Artificial Intelligence Convergence (also the Director of the ICT Innovation Talent 4.0 Team) who directed the academic conference on-site, announced plans: "We aim not to confine ourselves to one-off academic events but to actively support the collaboration and fusion research between scholars from various disciplines worldwide, such as mathematics, big data, artificial intelligence, and financial engineering, in order to generate global research outcomes through the support of Sungkyunkwan University's Innovation Talent program."

Professor Doojin Ryu from the Economics Department, also the head of the Economics Research Institute, who oversaw the overall planning of this academic event, expressed his feelings: "Starting with invited lectures by Nobel laureates in economics, this marks our university's 9th major international academic event in the finance field over the past five years. With support from various departments and academic circles including the Office of Academic Affairs, Planning and Coordination Office, College of Economics, Software Convergence College, BK Education and Research Group, Innovation Talent Team, Economics Research Institute, and the Global Finance Research Center, we have successfully continued these academic events. Moving forward, our aim is to pursue significant academic endeavors to foster the next generation of scholars at a global standard, facilitating education and research of worldwide caliber."
