2021 Summer Online Graduation Ceremony

□ Sungkyunkwan University (President Dong-Ryeol Shin) announces that the 2021 Summer Online Graduation Ceremony will be held on August 25 (Wed) at 11 a.m. via SKKU main website and YouTube due to COVID-19. At the ceremony, a total of 3,097 students will receive their degrees (1,694 bachelor’s degrees, 1,142 master’s degrees, and 261 doctor’s degrees).

□ The ceremony will be held in order of commencement address by the SKKU President, congratulatory speech by the Chair of the Board of Trustees and the President of the Alumni Association, speech by the graduate student representative, congratulatory messages from the SKKU faculty members, current students, alumni from home and abroad, and parents, and celebratory performance by the students from the department of acting for theatre, film, and television.

□ In addition, Sungkyunkwan University’s traditional ritual, Munmyo Goyurye, will be played in the video. It has established itself as a tradition of SKKU and is a ritual ceremony to visit Confucian Shrine when there are major school events such as entrance ceremonies and graduations.

□ Moreover, Jared Diamond, who is a distinguished professor of SKKU and an author of <Guns, Germs, and Steel>, and will teach a course titled “The Age of Upheaval” from the 2021 fall semester, prepared a congratulatory message for graduates.

□ President Shin said, “It’s a shame not to have the last memories on Campus due to COVID-19. Nonetheless, I hope all graduates enjoy their online graduation ceremony through these colorful events. I also hope that all will gather together to share their joy of graduation for the next graduation ceremony.

□ Meanwhile, father (Yeon-Ho Kim) and son (Min-Woo Kim) earn the same degree at this graduation ceremony. Yeon-Ho Kim, an alumnus received the doctor of laws degree in 2019 and his son, Min-Woo Kim receives the same degree this year. Under the guidance of Il-Hwan Kim, the Dean of Law, the Kims earn the doctorate degrees with “A review of the military court system under the Constitution” and “A constitutional study of the concept and protection of personal information”, respectively.
