Professor Chungsik Yoo (School of Civil, Architectural Engineering
and Landscape Architecture) Elected as FedIGS President
At the recent FedIGS (Federation of International Geo-Engineering Societies) board meeting, professor Chungsik Yoo (School of Civil, Architectural Engineering and Landscape Architecture) was elected as president of the FedIGS for a 4-year term. The term of office of the president is from September 2022 to 2026.
FedIGS is an international forum for geotechnical organizations related to ground engineering, and 4 academic societies, ISSMGE (International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering), ISRM (International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering), IAEG (International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment), and IGS (International Geosynthetics Society), are active as member societies. FedIGS was established to promote interaction among member academic societies, effectively respond to various global issues related to geotechnical technology, and advance related technologies.
Professor Yoo, who is currently the president of the IGS (International Geosynthetics Society), is expected to play an active role in the field of new ground materials over the next 4 years as a global leader leading the association of international academic societies related to ground engineering based on the basis of his international leadership.
