카자흐스탄에서 온 19살 Chingis Oinar학우는 올 해 가을 성균관대 신입생이 되어 학교생활을 시작했다.  어렸을 적부터 스티브 잡스의 영향을 받아 온 그는 프로그래밍에 열정을 가지게 되었고 따라서 소프트웨어학을 전공하기로 결심했다.

Chingis Oinar, a nineteen-year-old boy from Kazakhstan, is a freshman in SungKyunKwan University that has just started his Fall semester. Since young, he was mainly influenced by Steve Jobs, thus making him to have a passion towards programming, and because of that, he decided to major in software engineering.

그에게 한국을 선택한 이유를 묻자 “내 삶은 왠지 한국에 연결되어 있는 것 같았다”고 대답했다. Chingis 학우의 어머니는 한국으로 교환프로그램에 참여해 온 적이 있으며, 그의 이모는 최근 한국에서 공부를 하는 중이다. 따라서 그는 한국에 유대감을 느끼는 것이다. 그는 또한 한국인의 생활방식과 사고방식에 대해 호기심을 느껴 한국행을 결심했다고 한다. 거기에 그는 새로운 환경이 그의 사고의 폭을 넓혀주고 리더십을 키워줄 것이라고 여겼다. 그는 한국대학생들의 성실함과 투지에 크게 놀랐다. 단편적으로 도서관의 예를 들 수 있다. 한국 학생들은 대부분의 시간을 도서관에서 보내고 매우 늦은 시간에 도서관을 떠난다. 이것을 보고 Chingis 학우는 더 열심히 살기로 결심했다. 

When questioned why he chose Korea, he answered, “I feel somehow my life is connected to Korea”. Chingis’ mother did an exchange program in Korea before whereas his sister is currently pursuing her studies in Korea as well, so he feels that his path somehow lies in Korea. He was also curious towards the Koreans’ lifestyle and the Korean way of thinking thus making him decided to go to Korea. Plus, he feels that with a new environment, he could be able to expand and widen his thinking horizon and build better leadership skills. One huge significant difference that he noticed was the diligence of the university students here. He was very amazed by the determination Korean students showed. One example was being at the library, Korean students spend most of their time in the library and they often leave the library at a very late hour. Upon seeing this, Chingis felt very motivated to be more hardworking. 

한국에 오기 전, Chingis학우는 인터넷으로 한국의 어느 대학에 다닐지 찾아보다가 성균관대를 발견했다. 그는 성균관대가 이룩한 학문적 성취에 매우 감명받았다고 한다. 또한 세계의 대학 순위를 비교해보고 성균관대가 그에게 최고의 선택임을 깨달았다고 한다. 성균관대에 지원한 그는 합격했을 뿐만 아니라 장학금 프로그램의 수혜자가 되었다. 삼성글로벌 성균 장학금은 최근 성균관대에 새롭게 개설된 장학 프로그램이다. 이 프로그램의 첫 수혜자가 된 그는 매우 감동받았고 이 기회를 이용하여 최고의 프로그래머가 되고 싶은 본인의 꿈을 이루는데 열정을 쏟겠다고 다짐했다.

Before coming to Korea, Chingis did a little web research before deciding which university in Korea he wants to attend to, and with that he discovered Sungkyunkwan University. He was very impressed by the achievements and acknowledgments contributed by SKKU. Also, by comparing the world top universities’ ranking, he decided Sungkyunkwan University is the best choice of university for him. After that, he applied for Sungkyunkwan University; not only was he accepted, he was also offered a scholarship program. The Samsung Global Sungkyun Scholarship Program is a new scholarship program established recently by SKKU. By being the first batch of scholars from this program, Chingis felt overwhelmed and decided that he needs to seize this opportunity and work towards his passion so that he can fulfill his dream of becoming a highly qualified programmer in the nearest future.

“저는 이곳에서 공부할 기회를 얻게 되어 진심으로 행복합니다. 이런 좋은 환경속에서 저는 공부를 열심히 하여 제 실력을 갈고 닦을 자극을 받습니다.이런 황금 같은 기회를 주신 성균관대에 감사하며 꿈을 위해 최선을 다하겠습니다” 라며 성균관대에 메시지를 전했다. 

“I feel really happy that I was given the opportunity to study here. Given with this good environment, I am inspired to study hard and also to improve myself. I want to thank Sungkyunkwan University for this golden chance and I will try my best to achieve my dreams.” – Words for SKKU by Chingis.

‘삼성 글로벌 성균 장학금’은 “English Track”에 입학한 뛰어난 능력과 잠재력을 가진 소수의 국제학생에게 제공된다. 임명된 학생은 4년 전액장학금이 제공되며 매달 지원금과 멘토링 프로그램을 제공받는다.
